PURE Digital Announces TEMPUS-1 DAB Digital Radio and Alarm Clock

by
London, UK: PURE Digital – a division of Imagination Technologies (LSE:IMG) – announces the TEMPUS-1 DAB digital radio and alarm clock. TEMPUS-1 extends PURE's range of award-winning digital radios, adding new features including: multiple sophisticated but easy to operate alarms; touch-sensitive SnoozeHandle™ technology; backlit night time clock display; and timed record function for use with MiniDisc or cassette recorder.

PURE's TEMPUS-1 offers the same marvellous DAB benefits as EVOKE-1, the world's most popular DAB radio, including easy tuning, crackle-free reception and exclusive DAB stations. TEMPUS-1 also offers a host of new features that make it the perfect bedtime companion. A combined sleep timer and programmable alarm enable users to fall asleep listening to one station and wake up to another (or a simple alarm tone if preferred). TEMPUS-1 users can even set another alarm for someone else with its own time and radio station, and a different alarm for weekdays and weekends.

TEMPUS-1 incorporates SnoozeHandle technology. A simple touch of the handle will snooze the alarm, which will then resume in eight minutes. For those late night time-checks touching the SnoozeHandle will light up a full-screen clock. The clear display offers selectable brightness settings and an automatically updated clock, which means owners will never again miss the British Summer Time clock movement. An easily accessible sleep button makes the radio go off automatically after a selectable period of time.¹

With TEMPUS-1's Record Timer users need never miss a radio programme again. Nine timers allow users to record their favourite shows to any device with a Sync-Record feature, such as a cassette, MiniDisc or CD-R recorder. Connection is via either stereo mini-jack or digital optical outputs. This digital optical output can also be used to connect to a high-performance hi-fi system with digital inputs, enabling TEMPUS-1 to be used as a very cost effective digital radio tuner.

PURE will be launching TEMPUS-1 exclusively at the What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision Show 2003. The show runs September 26-28 at the Olympia Hilton (open from 10am to 6pm daily).

TEMPUS-1's maple wood casework surrounds a pearlescent white front with silver grille and control panel with scrolling LCD text display, sleep-button, station selection and volume knobs and button controls for presets, display-settings, power and auto-tuning. TEMPUS-1 has an integrated full-range hi-fi speaker and features a reflex port for enhanced bass performance.

TEMPUS-1 has a SSP of just £129.99 (inc. VAT). It will be available from selected retailers from November 2003.

Future-proofed with USB connectivity, TEMPUS-1 can be upgraded via a PC for access to future product enhancements. An optional ST-1 speaker is available to upgrade TEMPUS-1 to stereo.

PURE Digital is the leading supplier of DAB radios in the UK. Its product range includes the DRX-701ES DAB and DRX-702ES DAB/FM/AM tuners, winners of What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision's Tuner Product of the Year 2002/2003 respectively.

Says Kevin Dale, president, PURE Digital: "Our customers have been asking for a DAB digital radio with alarm functions and a sleep timer as well as the familiar quality of our award winning EVOKE range. TEMPUS-1 goes even further with new features like the SnoozeHandle and the ability to go to sleep and wake up to different stations playing. It is the radio to have by your bedside."

DAB digital radio provides high-quality, interference-free digital audio without the hiss, crackle and fade of traditional analogue radio broadcasts. TEMPUS-1's easy-to-use one touch auto-tune facility makes it a breeze to lock-on to all available DAB stations, automatically selecting the strongest regional transmitter. Stations are not tuned by frequency – users can choose stations by name and list them alphabetically or by favourite. Scrolling digital text display (DLS) shows additional data supplied by the broadcaster such as song titles, artists' names, programme descriptions, news headlines and more.

Up to twice as many stations are available in many areas as via FM. UK national radio services broadcast digitally include BBC Radios 1-4, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, Classic FM, talkSPORT and Virgin Radio. In some areas as many as 55 digital radio stations are available including local stations such as Heart 106.2, Jazz FM, Capital Radio and unique-to-digital stations such as BBC 6 Music, BBC 1Xtra, BBC 7, BBC Asian Network, Oneword and Planet Rock.

TEMPUS-1 is a mains powered portable DAB digital radio and is supplied with a 240V AC to 12V DC mains power adaptor and removable telescopic aerial. The product is covered by a 2-year warranty.
