PURE DRX-701ES Wins What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision Tuner Product of the Year Award 2002

by
PURE Digital – a division of Imagination Technologies – is delighted to announce that its PURE DRX-701ES DAB digital radio tuner has won the Product of the Year award in the tuner category of What Hi Fi Sound And Vision Awards 2002.

Says What Hi Fi Sound And Vision in its awards issue, available from September 19th 2002: "What else could land Product of the Year but an update of last year's winner that performs even better but costs £100 less? …if you want a quality home tuner for digital radio you need look no further."

The PURE DRX-701ES' predecessor, the VideoLogic DRX-601ES, won the Tuner Product of the Year award in 2001 and was the first DAB digital radio ever to win in the awards.

Using the META third-generation DAB processor, designed by Imagination Technologies, enables PURE Digital to include a wider range of outstanding features and performance, like favourite station learning and signal strength diagnostics to enable easy setup, while also bringing down the price of hi-fi DAB tuners by nearly a third compared to PURE's previous generation product.

On receiving the award from What Hi Fi Sound And Vision editor Andy Clough at the awards presentation on August 29th PURE Digital's president, Kevin Dale said: "We are delighted that we have yet again been recognised by the most prestigious hi-fi and home entertainment awards in the UK. With both the DRX-701ES and our £99 EVOKE-1 DAB radio now reaching consumers, this Christmas is set to be a very exciting time for digital radio."

The PURE DRX-701ES features the latest highly integrated, third-generation DAB chip, Frontier Silicon's Chorus™ FS1010. The Chorus processor is a single-chip DAB/Audio processor, based on the META™ processor design and Ensigma DAB IP licensed from Imagination Technologies, and enables PURE Digital to create a high-performance, cost-effective DAB tuner that also massively increases on the features available in previous generation DAB products. It is the incorporation of this technology that allows the price to be cut by £100 from £349 to £249.

This feature rich digital radio product includes: USB connectivity for easy software upgrades and future DAB data access; configurable station ordering (alphabetically or by favourite / most played); 99 presets; high-sensitivity RF tuner module; low noise toroidal transformer power supply; fast auto-tune and service selection; improved signal strength meter with diagnostics for easy aerial set-up; ultra high performance 24-bit / 192 kHz delta sigma digital to analogue converters and built-in 4x up-sampling with data interpolation, which is usually only found on expensive, stand-alone DAC solutions.
