VideoLogic Announces Over 160 Independent Hi-Fi Retailers for Award-Winning DAB Digital Radio Tuners

by
VideoLogic Systems – a division of Imagination Technologies – has signed over 160 independent hi-fi stores across England, Scotland and Wales for its DRX family of DAB digital radio tuners in just six months after beginning its roll-out to independent stores, and is actively seeking further retailers. The VideoLogic DRX-601E broke the price barrier that has kept digital radio from achieving mass-market adoption with an RRP of just £299 (inc. VAT) – hundreds of pounds less than typical DAB receivers currently available. VideoLogic has since launched two further tuners – the silver DRX-601ES with PAC™ Technology and the multi-language and dual-band DRX-602ES and is debuting further hi-fi products today at the Hi Fi Show 2001 in London.

Says Kevin Dale, president, VideoLogic: "We are delighted with the reception we have received from the specialist hi-fi retail industry and are continuing to expand our retail coverage – over 700 stores in total now sell DRX family products. We are already in the major multiple retail outlets such as Dixons, Currys and John Lewis and have worked to extend our reach into the important independent specialist retail outlets."

Further retailers interested in stocking VideoLogic's digital tuners can contact VideoLogic on 01923 277 488 or via sales@videologic.com. A full list of VideoLogic stockists can be found at www.videologic.com.

The reaction from the press to the DRX family has been amazing, with top scores from What Hi-Fi? and Stuff magazines and Best Buy Awards from Hi-Fi Choice and Classic FM already won by the DRX-601E. "In terms of sound quality this 'budget' DAB tuner can meet more expensive alternatives head on," decided Hi-Fi Choice (Feb '01). "This is a real bargain," agreed Gramophone (Feb '01), "and comes with a solid recommendation for anyone considering a move into digital radio but discouraged by the high prices of hardware to date." The DRX-601ES scored 5/5 in the September 2001 issue of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision: "The 601E broke new ground and this ES variant builds on its strengths. We can't wait to see what VideoLogic does next!"

The £299 DRX-601E, with its high quality slim-line aluminium fascia and easy to use interface, is intended to complement the user's hi-fi separates system, either as an additional input source to a hi-fi amplifier or as a replacement for an existing radio tuner. The DRX-601E has high-performance 24-bit / 96 kHz delta sigma digital to analogue converters for high-quality stereo digital audio, a low noise toroidal transformer power supply, fast auto-tune and service selection as well as nine station presets operated from the remote control. DRX-601E also includes a full suite of input and output features for maximum connectivity including: S/P-DIF digital output (48kHz) via Toslink and phono connectors for direct digital recording to MiniDisc or DAT, loop through circuit for external FM/AM tuner and an RF connector for DAB antenna connection. An RDI (Receiver Data Interface) optical port is fitted for future expansion and connectivity.

The £349 VideoLogic DRX-601ES builds on the success of the award winning DRX-601E with performance tuning and an elegant silver design. The DRX-601ES features a stylish silver anodised aluminium front panel along with silver finish casework and controls. Further enhancements include cool blue LED indicators and an easy to read blue/white display. DRX-601ES also improves upon the audio quality of the award-winning DRX-601E with optimised PAC™ Technology for psycho-acoustic compensation, the result of which is a significantly more natural sound than other digital radio tuners.
