VideoLogic Announces PURE DRX-601EX
VideoLogic Systems – a division of Imagination Technologies – announces its PURE DRX-601EX DAB digital radio tuner, a stylish mains powered portable DAB radio featuring high quality amplification and speaker drive units providing stunning sound. DRX-601EX will be available in November, to satisfy the Christmas market.
DRX-601EX is one of the first products in the PURE range from VideoLogic. PURE is a new brand for VideoLogic's premium home entertainment and consumer audio products – products that will provide outstanding hi-fi quality and market-leading value. Other new PURE products include the new LiFE 4/10 home cinema surround audio system and the DRX-601ESM Mini DAB tuner.
Suitable for any room in the house the DRX-601EX uses the same award winning technology as the VideoLogic DRX digital radio tuner family and features elegant styling in maple or cherry real wood veneers with inlaid aluminium control panels, fast auto tuning, a blue/white display screen and a discrete remote control.
This new mains powered portable radio features built in speakers with 4" drive units, concentric tweeters and concealed bass reflex porting whilst the onboard amplifier provides 10W RMS of hi-fi quality output per channel. Phono inputs allow users to connect external devices such as a CD/Walkman or MiniDisc for playback via the radio speakers and phono outputs enable connection to an external amplifier.
Priced at just £499 (RRP inc. VAT) the DRX-601EX is the first portable DAB unit with built in speakers to be available on the mass-market and is more than a match for even the most expensive DAB tuners in terms of audio quality. The leading UK hi-fi magazine, What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision, awarded the DRX-601ES – on which the DRX-601EX is based - a Product of the Year award in its 2001 annual awards.
Says Kevin Dale, president, VideoLogic: "Demand for a portable digital radio – ideal for use in the kitchen, living room or study - can at last be satisfied. The PURE DRX-601EX combines classic radio styling with modern materials and technology to create a truly definitive, high-class product."
DRX-601EX also improves upon the audio quality of DAB with optimised PAC™ Technology for psycho-acoustic compensation, the result of which is a significantly more natural sound than other digital radio tuners.
Analogue FM or MW radio signals suffer from several kinds of interference travelling between the transmitter and the radio, caused by tall buildings, the landscape or weather conditions. Digital radio selects the strongest regional transmitter automatically and then actually uses any obstacles as reflectors to create multiple path reception conditions that optimise receiver sensitivity and ensure users get digital-quality sound with no break-ups.
As well as crystal-clear reception and high-detail digital-quality sound, DRX-601EX can provide additional information including station identification, track listings, traffic and news data or other text (dependent on transmission content provided by the broadcasting station), which is displayed on the DRX-601EX's integral LCD screen. The DRX-601EX is powered from a mains connection and features parallel curved metallic handles for easy portability.
DRX-601EX has a very easy to use interface and is accompanied by a fully featured infrared remote control for the easy selection of main channel or secondary service broadcasts. Secondary service is a 'sub-channel' that can contain additional broadcasts like news, competitions or expanded information that enrich the user's enjoyment of the main broadcast.
DRX-601EX has high performance 24-bit / 96 kHz delta sigma digital to analogue converters for high-quality stereo digital audio, a low noise toroidal transformer power supply and linear amplifier, inbuilt 4" Audax concentric drive units, fast auto-tune and service selection as well as 9 station presets operated from the remote control.
DRX-601EX includes a full suite of input and output features for maximum connectivity including: S/P-DIF digital output (48 kHz) via Toslink and phono connectors for direct digital recording to MiniDisc or DAT; phono inputs to connect external devices such as CD/Walkman or MiniDisc for playback via the radio speakers; phono outputs for connection to an external amplifier; a "whip" DAB antenna and an RF connection for antenna upgrades. An RDI (Receiver Data Interface) optical port is also fitted for future expansion and connectivity.
