PURE Digital Launches PocketDAB 1000
PURE Digital – a division of Imagination Technologies (LSE:IMG) – has launched the PURE PocketDAB™ 1000, a stylish handheld portable DAB digital radio that will be on sale in May 2003 from major retailers and independent hi-fi dealers nationwide for just £169.99 (RRP inc. VAT). PocketDAB 1000 will be on display at The Smart Show 2003, April 6 – 8, Birmingham NEC, Stand 137.
The PocketDAB 1000 is the premier handheld DAB digital radio for the discerning radio listener on the move. With more than 16 hours of battery life1
the PocketDAB 1000 enables the user to enjoy DAB's improved reception, station choice and audio-stability anywhere that broadcasts are available.
The PocketDAB 1000 has modern, attractive styling, with its striking anodised aluminium casework and blue backlight. Its portability is enhanced both by the unit's light weight and the absence of a cumbersome telescopic aerial – in fact the PocketDAB 1000's aerial is built-in to the unit's headphones for maximum usability and performance.
With the PocketDAB 1000 users can enjoy the great choice of DAB digital radio stations wherever they go2
– including DAB exclusive stations like Core, OneWord, talkSPORT,
6 Music, Radio 1Xtra and BBC 7.
PocketDAB 1000 has been designed for ease of use with a central joystick for navigation and separate controls for key functions like display settings, presets and EQ. Stations are simply selected by name and the PocketDAB 1000 automatically tunes in, eliminating the fine-tuning and re-tuning required by analogue portables. PocketDAB 1000 automatically remembers the user's ten most listened to stations in a favourites list for fast selection. Stations can be ordered alphanumerically, by multiplex, by favourite and by active stations for maximum ease of use.
PocketDAB 1000 features an easily readable blue backlit LCD with two lines of 16 character alphanumeric display as well as six graphical icons for volume, battery life, time, favourites mode, EQ and signal strength. The backlight is activated by any key-press and times out after five seconds during battery operation. DAB radio stations broadcast text that appears on the display and can include news headlines, sporting results, track information, call-in telephone numbers and much more, depending on the station being listened to.
PURE Digital is the leading supplier of DAB radios in the world. Its product range includes the DRX-701ES DAB tuner, winner of What Hi-Fi Sound & Visions' Tuner Product of the Year 2002, EVOKE-1, the first DAB radio under £100, and the premium portable DAB radio, the PURE DRX-601EX. Other new products include the DRX-702ES DAB/AM/FM tuner and the EVOKE-2 DAB/FM radio.
The PocketDAB 1000 is based on the Diablo DAB digital radio module, developed by Frontier Silicon and The Technology Partnership (TTP) using licensed technology from Imagination Technologies' Metagence and Ensigma divisions.
