VideoLogic Announces Digitheatre 5.1 Speaker System

by
VideoLogic - the international company that develops, designs and supplies market-leading 2D/3D graphics accelerator and audio products for PCs, games consoles and arcade entertainment machines - is premiering its DigiTheatre speaker system this week at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany (Hall 9, Stand A78.) DigiTheatre provides full AC3/Dolby Digital decoding and output from a complete system that includes six speakers (two rear, two front, one centre, one subwoofer) and a separate AC3/Dolby Digital decoder box. DigiTheatre also provides support for Dolby ProLogic, MPEG-2 stereo and stereo surround. Kevin Dale, marketing and sales director, VideoLogic Systems says: "To really appreciate the outstanding quality of DVD movies you need Dolby Digital. With the uptake of DVD outstripping any other new technology in both the US and Europe the market for AC3 decoding is rapidly taking shape. "However, most Dolby Digital decoders are high-cost items, even if we don't factor in the cost of the required amplifier, speakers and subwoofer. Our DigiTheatre is the first product to provide high-quality Dolby Digital decode and output in a fully featured system and at an astonishingly low price." DigiTheatre has been designed for use with any DVD device, from stand-alone players to PCs with DVD-ROM and S/PDIF output. Styled in charcoal and black for the living room DigiTheatre also looks great next to a PC. DigiTheatre will be available from May 1999 for £199 (ex. VAT, UK.) Continues Dale: "We provide a specification above that of other low-cost Dolby Digital solutions. Not only does DigiTheatre provide high-quality audio output but also the little touches like an optical digital input, as well as the common coaxial one, and a discrete remote control, that make real differences to usability. Analog dual phono inputs are provided for Dolby ProLogic or music surround and we've designed the cabling to be neat and easy to understand." Other DigiTheatre features include: powerful satellite speakers for all channels; individual volume control for each speaker; individual delay control to each speaker; decoding for digital audio; remote mute; and a speaker test function. DigiTheatre's compact satellites have been designed with ease of mounting in mind. The front speakers have a separate tweeter and mid-range cone and the rear left and right speakers have full frequency mid-range cones. The subwoofer contains all the necessary power supply and amplifiers.
