VideoLogic launches high-end graphics card for Windows NT market -- GrafixStar 750

VideoLogic, the international PC multimedia and 3D graphics company, has today launched a high end 2D/3D graphics solution for the professional market -- the GrafixStar 750. Based on the S3 ViRGE/VX integrated graphics, video and 3D controller, the GrafixStar 750 delivers high-resolution, high-performance Windows NT and Windows 95 acceleration for the most demanding of graphics and 3D applications. The GrafixStar 750 will be available from VideoLogic's existing network of distributors and resellers in April.

Supporting 4 MB of super fast VRAM as standard, the GrafixStar 750 will have an RRP of approx. £175.00 and an estimated street price of £159.00. The card is also upgradable to 8 MB, with an additional 4 MB of DRAM texture memory for enhanced 3D quality and performance, and comes with support for OpenGL, Direct3D and S3d applications. GrafixStar 750 (8 MB) will have an RRP of £249.00 and an expected street price of £239.00.

Both the OEM and retail versions of the GrafixStar 750 come with a games sampler CD, while the retail GrafixStar 550 will also have full-version D3D games bundled.

The GrafixStar 750 is a Windows NT and Windows 95 Plug and Play PCI graphics card, with an integrated multimedia accelerator that supports full screen digital video playback. With 4 MB of VRAM, the card delivers very high performance at resolutions of up to 1600x1200, with a maximum refresh rate of 200 Hz and supporting up to 16.7 million colours.

In addition, the S3 based ViRGE/VX controller on board the GrafixStar 750 supports features demanded by today's 3D applications, including: flat and Gouraud shading, perspective correction, bi- and trilinear texture filtering, MIP mapping, depth cueing, fogging, alpha blending, video texture mapping and Z-buffering.GrafixMAX high performance drivers

VideoLogic has developed accelerated software drivers for the GrafixStar 750 using its custom designed GrafixMAX technology, producing a significant graphics performance advantage over other ViRGE/VX based graphics cards in Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0.

£200 Prolab Software Bundle

As part of the GrafixStar 750 customer pack, VideoLogic is also bundling £200 of Prolab multimedia software, free of charge. The Prolab software package consists of three software titles - Image Folio, VideoWork and MediaScope.

  • Image Folio is a multimedia image processing application that allows you to edit, re-shape and colour images, with full twain capability for scanner interface.
  • VideoWork is a video capturing, editing and playback application that can manipulate and compress multiple video formats. Using over 150 transition effects and a wide range of video and audio special effects, VideoWork produces professional customised video on your PC.
  • MediaScope is a three-in-one on-screen multimedia CD player that gives the PC user an easy to use and visual interface for playing Media CDs, Music CDs and MPEG CDs.

VideoLogic SmartTools (Windows 95 only)

VideoLogic has also developed a suite of "Smart" utilities for use with the GrafixStar 750 under Windows 95, including SmartDesktop and SmartDisplay:

SmartDesktop is an enhanced virtual desktop manager, enabling resolution switching on the fly; SmartDisplay is a graphics display Wizard to help users make the most suitable install and set-up decisions for their graphics subsystems.

VideoLogic Support

The GrafixStar 750 is also supplied with software drivers supporting Windows 3.11, Windows 95, Windows NT and IBM OS/2. The card is backed by a five year warranty, with 24-hour on-line Internet and Bulletin Board support.
