VideoLogic brings together low-cost Internet videoconferencing and video capture

SAN BRUNO, Calif.--June 2, 1997--VideoLogic, one of the world's leading makers of computer graphics and 3D hardware, today began shipping a range of revolutionary low-cost Internet/intranet/direct-dial videoconferencing and video capture cards targeted at retail customers and PC OEMs. The Captivator PCI enables any Internet user to add videoconferencing capability to their PC for under $100.

Captivator PCI adds full hardware video capability to the latest version of NetMeeting, Microsoft's net-conferencing software. NetMeeting 2.0 is an enhanced conferencing application with full support for video and is downloadable at no charge from Microsoft's Web site at Captivator PCI also supports Intel's Internet Video Phone software, which works alongside existing Web browsers and is downloadable at no charge from the Web at In addition, trial versions of alternative conferencing software from several other software companies are available from the Web.

Based on the Brooktree Bt848 video processor, Captivator PCI is a stand-alone PCI half card available in two versions, each delivering high-quality video capture and instant online videoconferencing from a Pentium-based PC equipped with a modem and a sound card. Captivator PCI supports S-video and composite video signal formats and comes with a complete set of Internet videoconferencing software. By connecting a standard camcorder or dedicated desktop color camera to Captivator PCI, the user is ready to transmit and receive live video over the Internet to anywhere in the world through their existing Internet service provider.Captivator PCI

Captivator PCI is a Plug-and-Play, PCI-based video capture card that is compatible with all DirectDraw-enabled, Windows95 graphics cards. The card comes with full support for Video for Windows, as well as no-cost, trial versions of several internet videoconferencing software packages, including CUSeeMe from Cornell University, CUSeeMe Enhanced from White Pine, VDOPhone Pro from VDONet and VidCall from MRA Assocs. Captivator PCI/VC

Captivator PCI/VC combines a full-motion video capture card, a high-quality desktop color camera with integrated microphone, and a full version of VDOPhone Professional that enables direct-dial modem-to-modem conferencing. This option also comes bundled with several trial versions of other Internet videoconferencing software packages (detailed above). Captivator PCI/VC has a suggested retail price of $275.99.

High-quality video capture

Based on the Brooktree Bt848 video processor, Captivator PCI produces high-quality 4:2:2 video capture, with both horizontal and vertical interpolation, and filtering. This enables the card to capture high-quality motion AVI video clips at up to 30fps at resolutions of 320 x 240, and capture video stills in BMP format. In addition, applying the bundled Prolab "VideoWork" graphics software (see below) means that video clips can be edited on a frame by frame basis to create custom video sequences, or using the bundled Prolab "ImageFolio" software, video stills can be edited and converted into different formats.

Video for Windows and customer support

Captivator PCI comes bundled with Video for Windows capture driver support, providing a standard interface to all popular Windows 95 videoconferencing and capture applications. The Captivator PCI is backed by a five year warranty, with 24-hour online Internet and Bulletin Board support.

Free Prolab software bundle

As part of the Captivator PCI customer pack, VideoLogic is bundling over $300 of Prolab multimedia software, free of charge. The Prolab software package consists of three software titles -- Image Folio, VideoWork and MediaScope. ImageFolio is a multimedia image processing application that allows you to edit, re-shape and color images, with full twain capability for scanner interface. VideoWork is a video capturing, editing and playback application that can manipulate and compress multiple video formats. Using over 150 transition effects and a wide range of video and audio special effects, VideoWork produces professional customized video on your PC. MediaScope is a three-in-one on-screen multimedia CD player that gives the PC user an easy to use and visual interface for playing media CDs, music CDs and MPEG CDs.
