VideoLogic Supports Switchdigital Digital Radio Launch in Scotland with Exclusive Retail Offer

by
To celebrate the launch of the Switchdigital digital radio multiplex1 in Scotland, VideoLogic – a division of Imagination Technologies – is offering its revolutionary DRX-601E DAB digital radio tuner for just £249 – a discount of £50 off RRP – exclusively through Scottish retailers. The offer will run from the 2nd July until 17th August 2001.

The Switchdigital Scotland multiplex will offer exciting new stations, catering for a broad range of interests, including Ministry of Sound Radio, WSCO The Mix, Big Scotland, The Lounge, The Rhythm, jazz fm, Beat 106, Scot FM and BBC Radio nan Gaidheal, in crystal clear digital quality sound across Central Scotland.

Switchdigital Scotland is owned by The Wireless Group, Clear Channel International, and The Carphone Warehouse.

Retailers already involved in the promotion include Dixons, John Lewis Department Stores, Currys, Miller Brothers, Hi-Fi Corner, Glasgow Audio, Sounds Perfect, Laser Audio and other leading hi-fi and specialist retailers. The offer will be supported on-air across Beat 106 and Scot FM radio stations, through editorial and competitions across Scottish newspapers and a leafleting campaign throughout Central Scotland. Switchdigital will celebrate its Scottish launch on July 5th with an event at the MAS club in Glasgow followed by a party thrown by digital radio station and dance club The Ministry Of Sound.

As well as the new Scottish multiplex Switchdigital is the operator of the second commercial Digital Radio multiplex in the London area. Switchdigital London went live on 26 June 2000, extending listening choice in the capital with six new radio services exclusive to the London area, plus three existing London stations.

Says Kevin Dale, President, VideoLogic Systems: "Switchdigital will bring the wider choice and excellent content of digital radio to Scottish listeners. Combined with the award winning sound and value of the DRX range, digital radio is set to take Scotland by storm."

The reaction from the press to the DRX range has been amazing, with top scores from What Hi-Fi and Stuff magazines and Best Buy Awards from Hi-Fi Choice and Classic FM already won. The Sunday Times, 27th May 2001 said: "Easy to use, the DRX-601ES plugs into a standard hi-fi and produces crystal clear sound from the supplied indoor aerial… Factor in its brilliant build, sleek finish and technical support and this is a must for serious radio listeners." "In terms of sound quality this 'budget' DAB tuner can meet more expensive alternatives head on," decided Hi Fi Choice (Feb '01). "This is a real bargain," agreed Gramophone (Feb '01), "and comes with a solid recommendation for anyone considering a move into digital radio but discouraged by the high prices of hardware to date."
