Sam Smith - Too Good at Goodbyes
The prospect of that ‘difficult second album' can be incredibly daunting for any artist, but none more so than for Sam Smith. After topping charts worldwide, bagging multiple Grammys and even recording a James Bond theme tune, the 25-year-old has achieved what most artists could only dream of doing their entire career.
But instead of crumbling under the pressure of world fame, Smith has returned with an absolute corker of a comeback single. Doing what he does best, the singer-songwriter marries vulnerable emotion with a flawless, irresistible vocal. Forget goodbyes, Sam Smith had us at hello!
Likely to hear on: Heart, Capital, Radio 1
Noel Gallagher - Holy Mountain
The Chief is back! Tackling album number three with a real spring in his step, Noel Gallagher set out to make a record inspired by psychedelia and up-tempo instrumentals. It’s this livelier sound, a real departure of style from the ex-Oasis honcho, that has drawn comparisons with the likes of T Rex and even The Beach Boys.
Not only is Holy Mountain a glimpse at a fresh and exciting new direction for Noel, but it also boasts one of the biggest singalong choruses of the year!
Likely to hear on: Absolute, Radio X, Virgin
Kelela - LMK
Something’s got to be going right if you’ve already worked and toured with the likes of Gorillaz, Solange and The xx before the release of your debut album. Just take a listen to LMK and it’s not too hard to tell why Kelela is sending the hype machine into overdrive.
A perfect fit for fans of Frank Ocean and the like, the tune’s alluring R&B backing track plays anchor to the singer’s smooth, soulful vocal in beautiful fashion. If this is your first taster of Kelela, then welcome to the fan club.

Beck - Up All Night
Following up a Grammy award-winning album is no mean feat, so it comes as no surprise that Beck has spent the last three years crafting his latest effort to perfection. A taster of 13th studio album, Colors, this must-listen track is an exquisitely produced pop hit which is ready-made for the dancefloor.
Lauded for his chameleonic shifting of musical styles, Up All Night represents another bow to the string for indie’s most prolific hit-maker.
Likely to hear on: Radio 6 Music, Absolute
Banks - Underdog
The latest teaser of Banks’ upcoming third LP is a confident serving of electropop which teems with killer hooks and perky synth beats. A far cry from the singer’s usual sombre sound, Underdog is a surprisingly upbeat affair.
“Baby, you can make it as the underdog,” she proclaims triumphantly with note-perfect falsetto. If you need any sort of motivation, then this is a track tailor-made for your workout playlist.
