PURE has teamed up with Fun Kids, the UK’s only radio station exclusively for kids, and Words for Life to launch a story writing competition for the summer holidays.
The ten winning stories about summer holidays will be read out on Fun Kids between the 26th of September and the 7th of October and they will also be available to listen to on all of PURE’s internet-connected radios as well as the PURE Lounge, www.thelounge.com, PURE’s radio and media portal. The ultimate winner will receive a PURE ONE Flow internet-connected digital radio on which to listen to their stories and a ticket for their family to visit all the Ironbridge Museums.
Fun Kids is featured on the station of the month page on the PURE Lounge during August. Visit http://new.thelounge.com/uk/station-of-the-month/funkids to enter the competition and read an interview with top Fun Kids DJ, Dennis the Menace. The page also contains last year’s winning stories, which can be listened to for inspiration as well as a live link to listen to Fun Kids and programme information.
According to Words for Life, a campaign run by independent charity the National Literacy Trust, listening and talking about radio programmes can help develop children’s speaking and listening skills.
Jack Sallabank, Words for Life says: “Speaking and listening skills are essential for children’s future success and also support the development of reading and writing skills. Children who have developed strong listening skills will be better able to understand and communicate with others. Parents can boost listening skills by engaging and interacting with their children, for instance by listening and chatting together about radio programmes and other audio content like talking books.”
